“She has a real talent for speaking at the event, knowing exactly what moms of kids with special needs want to hear.”

In the last five years it’s been just my son and I most days, and I have no real friends, much less any who understand my struggles. Last night I felt surrounded by women who I didn’t have to know to feel that they understood me. Then I spoke with a few of the moms, made connections, shared stories, struggles, tips, and walked away feeling like the autism journey I am on with my son was just a little less impossible.

As an autism mom herself, Julie knows how to share her story in a way that encourages other moms.  She brings years of experience to create events that are fun, relaxing and re-energizing for autism moms.  She knows what other moms want and need.  Every mom deserves a chance to feel like a human again even if it’s just for a few hours.

“She (Hornok) interviewed 30 parents of children with autism, based everywhere from Missouri to Singapore. Each piece is concise, thought-provoking, and illustrated with at least one black-and-white family photograph. This book offers both lessons and hope. A well-written and reassuring set of true stories about autism.”

“There were so many things I enjoyed about the Moms Night. I appreciated Julie being candid about her journey and the laughs. I hadn’t gotten out like that in a long time. When I got home I really reflected on the points she made, and I realized that I have shut myself off for such a long time. It’s time for me to get back in the saddle and go to groups and events. I can support other mothers in their journey, and get support as well.”

The food, the community, the humor and the joy in remembering that we are never alone in our battle to be the best advocate and parent we can to our children. I smiled, I laughed, and I cried, but for once I didn’t feel like I was alone.

I have never been to an event like this before for autism. I have been on this journey for almost 14 years. This was the most enjoyable evening I have had with other autism MOMs. I had a chance to meet mingle, laugh and just relax. Thank you so much for a wonderful evening.

“Julie’s hilarious outlook, words of encouragement and real-life stories made this an entertaining, relatable and truly memorable event for so many parents and caregivers. It was a delight to work with and get to know Julie. She is a shining light in a world of darkness and denial.”

Working with Julie to organize our moms events has been a wonderful experience.  She has a passion for the autism community and it shows. She knows how to inspire moms while making them laugh and sends them home feeling hopeful.  We can’t wait until her next book so she can host again!  We love you Julie and all you do for this community.
